What to Do After Results: A Complete Action Plan
If You Scored Above 85% 🎉
Class 10 students:
- Choose your stream (Science/Commerce/Arts) based on interests and career goals
- Apply to good Class 11-12 schools early — many have admission by June
- Consider NTSE Stage 2 preparation if you cleared Stage 1
- Start JEE/NEET foundation if you're taking Science with Math/Biology
Class 12 students:
- Check college cutoffs on official websites (Delhi University, Mumbai University)
- Apply to CUCET/CUET UG — deadline is usually April-May
- Start entrance exam prep: JEE Advanced, NEET, CLAT, NIFT etc.
- Register for Common Seat Allotment (CSAB) for engineering colleges
If You Scored Between 60–85%
Don't panic — here's your roadmap:
- Verify your result — Check your answer sheets. Re-checking/re-evaluation is available for most boards
- Map your options — Your score still opens many quality colleges
- Consider entrance exams — JEE Main doesn't require 85%+ boards for most colleges
- State board options — Many state colleges have lower cutoffs than Delhi/Mumbai DU
Re-evaluation process:
- ICSE: Apply within 7 days of result on cisce.org (₹1000/subject)
- CBSE: Apply within 7 days on cbse.gov.in (₹500/subject)
If You Scored Below 60% or Failed a Subject
Compartment/improvement options:
CBSE Compartment Exam:
- Applicable if you failed 1 subject
- Usually held in July
- Register through your school
ICSE Compartment:
- Available for students who failed 1–2 subjects
- Usually August-September
Repeat exam:
- Both boards allow repeating as a private candidate
- Next year's exams — use this time to strengthen fundamentals
Remember: Many successful professionals and entrepreneurs scored below 60% in board exams. Your board score is one chapter of a very long story.
