NEET UG Overview

  • NEET-UG: sole entrance for MBBS, BDS, BVSc, B.Pharm, AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy) in India
  • 720 marks; 4 sections; Biology (Botany 90 marks + Zoology 90 marks), Physics (180 marks), Chemistry (180 marks)
  • 3.5 hours; 200 questions; attempt 180; -1 for wrong answer; +4 for correct

Biology (360 Marks) — Most Important

  • NCERT Class 11 + 12 Biology: covers 85%+ of NEET questions; read every line
  • High-yield chapters: Reproduction in Flowering Plants + Human Reproduction (40+ marks), Genetics (30+ marks)
  • Diagrams: T.S. Anther, Embryo Sac, Fertilisation, Human Male/Female systems, Mitosis/Meiosis: 5+ marks from diagrams

Chemistry (180 Marks) Strategy

  • Organic Chemistry: most important; reactions, mechanisms, IUPAC naming; 45–50% of Chemistry marks
  • Physical Chemistry: numericals (electrochemistry, kinetics, solutions, thermodynamics); 25–30% marks
  • Inorganic: periodic trends, coordination compounds, p-block elements; direct factual NCERT questions

Physics (180 Marks) Strategy

  • Mechanics + Heat: 30–35% of Physics; Kinematics, Laws of Motion, Work-Energy, Thermodynamics
  • Modern Physics: 25% of Physics; Photoelectric Effect, Nuclei, Semiconductors; conceptual questions
  • NCERT Physics: all examples and exercises; Physics is not primarily numerical in NEET (unlike JEE)

NCERT as the Core

  • 90%+ of NEET questions are NCERT-based or NCERT-derivative; this is official and verified
  • Method: read NCERT 3 times; underline important lines; make brief margin notes; no paraphrasing, learn exact text
  • Supplementary: DC Pandey (Physics), Dinesh (Biology) for extra practice; never replace NCERT with supplementary

Mock Test Strategy

  • NTA NEET Mock Test: free from NTA website; use extensively; interface similar to actual exam
  • Minimum 30 full mocks before NEET; analyse each mock; identify repeated weak chapters
  • Time management: 360 marks in 3.5 hours; Biology first (fastest), then Chem, then Physics (most time-consuming)

From Class 11 to NEET

  • Start NEET preparation seriously in Class 11; biology is cumulative — Class 11 chapters form 50% of NEET Bio
  • Coaching in Nashik: Aakash, Allen, Bright Tutorials; choose institute with strong Biology faculty
  • Target: NEET score 650+ for government medical college; 700+ for AIIMS; 720 (perfect) for AIIMS Delhi
