Take up a small group project. Identify the types of vegetables, fruits, and trees that grow in the different soil types. (Page 11)

For our small group project, we studied different’ soil types and learnt that each one supports different vegetables, fruits, and trees. Alluvial soil grows vegetables like onions and brinjals, and fruits such as guavas and papayas. Black soil is good for crops like chillies and soybeans, and fruits like grapes. Red soil supports maize, groundnuts, and fruits like pomegranates. Laterite soil grows pineapples, cashews, and rubber trees. Alpine soil supports apple, strawberry, cashew nuts, almonds etc. Sandy soil is suitable for carrots, cucumbers, and date palms.
