S.No.CausesFemale fatality rate (%)
1Reproductive health condition31.8
2Neuropsychiatric conditions25.4
3Injuries12.4
4Cardiovascular conditions4.3
5Respiratory conditions4.1
6Other causes22.0

(i) Represent the information given above graphically.

(ii) Which condition is the major cause of women’s ill health and death worldwide?

(iii) Try to find out, with the help of your teacher, any two factors which play a major role in the cause in (ii) above being the major cause.

Answer
S.No.CausesFemale fatality rate (%)
1Reproductive health condition (RHC)31.8
2Neuropsychiatric conditions (NC)25.4
3Injuries (I)12.4
4Cardiovascular conditions (CC)4.3
5Respiratory conditions (RC)4.1
6Other causes (OC)22.0

(i) Steps of construction :

  1. Plot the causes on x-axis.

  2. Plot female fatality rate on y-axis by taking 1 cm = 4%.

  3. To represent our first Head, i.e., (RHC), we draw a rectangular bar with width 1 unit and height 31.8 units.

  4. Similarly, other Heads are represented leaving a gap of 1 unit in between two consecutive bars.

Mean, Median, Mode

Mean: Sum of all values / count. Affected by extreme values.
Median: Middle value (after sorting). Not affected by extreme values.
Mode: Most frequent value. Can have multiple modes or no mode.

Quick Self-Check

  1. Mean of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10? (30/5 = 6)
  2. Median of 3, 1, 7, 5, 9? (Sorted: 1,3,5,7,9. Median = 5)
  3. Mode of 2, 3, 3, 5, 5, 5, 7? (5)
