Model Paper 2 — Question 10

Preparation of lead sulphate from lead chloride:

1. Dissolve lead chloride (PbCl₂) in hot water as the salt is only sparingly soluble in cold water but dissolves better when heated.
2. While the solution is still hot, slowly add a dilute solution of sulphuric acid with constant stirring.
   $\text{PbCl}_2 + \text{H}_2\text{SO}_4 [\text{aq}] \longrightarrow\text{PbSO}_4 \downarrow + 2\text{HCl}$
3. Allow the mixture to cool, then filter to collect the precipitate.
4. Wash the precipitate with distilled water and finally dry it.
