Question 3

The centre of gravity of a hollow cone of height h is at distance x from its vertex where the value of x is:

  1. h3\dfrac{\text{h}}{3}
  2. h4\dfrac{\text{h}}{4}
  3. 2h3\dfrac{2\text{h}}{3}
  4. 3h4\dfrac{3\text{h}}{4}
Answer

2h3\dfrac{2\text{h}}{3}

Reason — The centre of gravity of a hollow cone is at a height h3\dfrac{\text{h}}{3} from the base.

Hence, from the vertex the height is :

h - h3\dfrac{\text{h}}{3} = 3h-h3\dfrac{\text{3h-h}}{3} = 2h3\dfrac{2\text{h}}{3}
