A few important characteristics of Sedimentary Rocks are:
- The material of sedimentary rock is derived from other pre-existing rocks.
- They are layered rocks.
- Sediments are deposited in sequential order i.e. size of sediments decrease from littoral margins to the centre of the water bodies.
- Most of the sedimentary rocks are permeable and porous.
- They contain fossils.
