Question 10

A solid weighs 120 gf in air and 105 gf when it is completely immersed in water. Calculate the relative density of solid.

Answer

Given,

Weight of the solid in air (W1) = 120 gf

Weight of the solid when completely immersed in water (W2) = 105 gf

Relative density of solid=(W1W1W2)=(120120105)=8\text{Relative density of solid} = \big(\dfrac{\text W_{1}}{\text W_{1} − \text W_{2}}\big) \\[0.5em] = \big(\dfrac{120}{120 - 105}\big) \\[0.5em] = 8

∴ Relative density of solid = 8
