Question 12

A body weighs 20 gf in air and 18 gf in water. Calculate relative density of the material of the body.

Answer

Given,

Weight of the solid in air (W1) = 20 gf

Weight of the solid in water (W2) = 18 gf

Relative density of body=(W1W1W2)=(202018)=(202)=10\text{Relative density of body} = \big(\dfrac{\text W_{1}}{\text W_{1} − \text W_{2}}\big) \\[0.5em] = \big(\dfrac{20}{20 - 18}\big) \\[0.5em] = \big(\dfrac{20}{2}\big) \\[0.5em] = 10
