CA Foundation Overview
- First level of CA programme by ICAI (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India)
- 4 papers: Principles of Accounting (Paper 1), Business Laws (Paper 2), Business Mathematics & Statistics (Paper 3), Business Economics (Paper 4)
- Exam twice yearly: May and November; passing marks 50% per paper and 50% aggregate
Paper 1 — Principles of Accounting

Paper 2 — Business Laws

- Sale of Goods Act, Negotiable Instruments Act (cheque, promissory note, bill of exchange), Partnership Act
- Learning technique: make tables of definitions, rights, and duties; MCQ practice from ICAI Practice Manual
Paper 3 — Business Maths and Statistics
- Business Maths: ratio, proportion, logarithms, permutation and combination, calculus basics, interest calculations
- Statistics: mean, median, mode, standard deviation, correlation, regression, index numbers
- Scoring paper: Maths is mechanical; practice 10 questions per concept; 75+ out of 100 achievable with practice
Paper 4 — Business Economics
- Micro: demand, supply, elasticity, market structures (perfect competition to monopoly), factor pricing
- Macro: national income, money and banking, inflation, economic development, India's economic environment
- Current economic affairs: RBI policy, Union Budget, GST, economic survey — small weightage but scoring
Passing Strategy
- Register early: minimum 4 months study period mandatory after registration; June registration for November exam
- Mock tests: ICAI conducts 3 mock test series; take all; compare with model answers
- Exemption: if 60+ in a paper with aggregate fail, exemption in that paper for next 3 attempts
Study Schedule for Foundation
- Class 12 students: start Foundation registration in Class 12 itself; appear after Class 12 in May or November
- Daily: 3–4 hours alongside Class 12; dedicated Foundation preparation in summer/winter holidays
- Law paper: requires reading and understanding; don't just memorise; understand the principle and apply
