NIFT Entrance Overview
- Three-stage selection: Creative Ability Test (CAT) + General Ability Test (GAT) → Situation Test (for B.Des only) → Personal Interview
- For B.F.Tech (fashion technology): only GAT + Interview
- CAT is 3.5 hours; GAT is 2 hours; both on same day (January)
Creative Ability Test (CAT)
- Section A: 10 questions on visual ability — draw from memory, imagination, 2D to 3D visualisation
- Section B: design-based drawing and composition; use of colour, shading, texture
- Tools: HB and 2B pencils, colour pencils/crayons; no digital tools; practice drawing from life daily
General Ability Test (GAT)
- Quantitative Ability: basic Maths (Class 10 level); proportions, areas, statistics
- Verbal Ability: English grammar, synonyms, analogies; reading comprehension
- Analytical Ability: logical reasoning, series, puzzles; GK: fashion/design/culture
Situation Test
- Practical test: given a set of materials (paper, cardboard, wire, etc.); create a 3D structure in 1 hour
- Judged on creativity, material usage, originality, presentation and neatness
- Practice: origami, paper sculpture, model making at home from scrap materials
Design Aptitude Preparation
- Sketch from observation daily: still life, nature, human figures, buildings
- Study design elements: line, form, colour, texture, space, contrast, balance
- Visit art exhibitions, browse design magazines (Architectural Digest, Vogue India) to develop visual sense
