What is RBI Grade B

  • RBI (Reserve Bank of India) Grade B Officer: managerial cadre; works on monetary policy, banking regulation, financial stability
  • One of India's most prestigious and well-paying government jobs; annual recruitment ~200–300 vacancies
  • Three streams: General (most vacancies), DEPR (economics/statistics), DSIM (data science + statistics)

Eligibility

  • DEPR: Master's in Economics/Econometrics; 55% marks; DSIM: Master's in Statistics/Mathematics

Exam Structure

  • Phase I: Objective (Online) — GA + English + Quant + Reasoning; 200 questions; 200 marks
  • Phase II: Descriptive — Paper I (Economics/Finance) + Paper II (English Writing); 200 marks each

  • Economics: Macro (IS-LM model, monetary policy, inflation targeting, BoP), Micro (elasticity, market structures, game theory)
  • Finance: financial markets, derivatives, banking regulation, monetary transmission mechanism, RBI functions
  • Current Affairs: RBI Monetary Policy Reports, Annual Report, Economic Survey, IMF World Economic Outlook

Preparation Resources

  • Phase I: same as SSC CGL/IBPS PO for quant and reasoning; GA from monthly magazines (Pratiyogita Darpan)
  • Phase II Economics: IGNOU B.Com/MA notes + Mankiw Macroeconomics + Mishkin Financial Markets book
