Preparation Tips
- Master Sandhi rules first: Sandhi carries 5-6 marks and is foundational to all Sanskrit reading. Practise identifying and joining/splitting sandhis daily. Focus on the five types of swar sandhi first.
- Memorise Samas types with examples: Create flashcards for each samas type with 5 examples each. The question will ask you to identify the type AND write the vigraha (expansion).
- Read Shemushi chapters aloud: Sanskrit is a phonetic language. Reading aloud improves comprehension, pronunciation, and helps in translation questions.
- Practise Anvay (word order rearrangement): For comprehension questions, learn to rearrange Sanskrit sentences into standard Subject-Object-Verb order to extract meaning.
- Write letters in Sanskrit weekly: Practise both formal (प्रधानाचार्य, सम्पादक) and informal (मित्र, पितृ) letter formats with correct salutations and sign-offs.
- Learn subhashitas by heart: The Suktimauktikam chapter contains important shlokas. Memorise their meanings and context — they often appear in MCQs and short answers.
