Question
The weight of a brick is 1kg more than half its weight. What is the weight of the brick?
Answer

Let the weight of a brick be x kg. According to the question, x = \(\frac {x}{2}\) + 1 Subtract \(\frac {x}{2}\) from both sides \(\frac{x}{1}-\frac{x}{2}=\frac{x}{2}+1-\frac{x}{2}\) ⇒ \(\frac{2 x-x}{2}\) = 1 ⇒ \(\frac {x}{2}\) = 1 Multiply both sides by 2 \(\frac {x}{2}\) × 2 = 1 × 2 ⇒ x = 2 ∴ Weight of the brick = 2 kg
